Welcome to our Special Topic Section on
Water Splitting!

Hydrogen is literally all around, in the form of water, and the obvious method of extracting the hydrogen is electrolysis. That however brings up the problem of where the electricity is to come from. One obvious pollution-avoiding source of electricity again solar. It would be even better if the sunshine could produce hydrogen directly without the need for superfluous intermediate electricity generation.
Photocatalytic water-splitting to yield hydrogen and oxygen, by exposing semiconductors to sunlight is in fact one of the most promising routes towards producing fuels from renewable sources. Indeed, one of the main fields of interest concerns so-called Z-scheme methods which mimic plant photosynthesis; perhaps the most natural method imaginable. (“Non-Electrolytic Water Splitting” David J. Fisher)

Recently published books by MRF:

Non-Electrolytic Water Splitting
The book focuses on the direct production of hydrogen, using solar energy. Photocatalytic water-splitting by exposing semiconductors to sunlight is one of the most promising routes.
Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting
The book presents new cutting-edge research findings in this field. Subjects covered include fabrication and characteristics of various electrode materials, cell design and strategies for enhancing the properties of PEC electrode materials.
Electrochemical Water Splitting
Aiming at the generation of hydrogen from water, electrochemical water splitting represents a promising clean technology for generating a renewable energy resource.
