Abstract: In this study, an experimental investigation on current characteristics during negative corona charging of polyimide (PI) has been carried out. The effect of the applied voltage on the corona current is studied to investigate the PI films electrical properties. The experimental results show clearly that the charging voltage affects the charging currents. These later presented a monotonically decreasing appearance over time and their amplitudes increase with increasing the value of the corona applied voltage. Current measurements during corona charging confirm the interpretation of surface potential measurements after corona charging where the increase of the charging voltage induces an increase in current level leading to the increase of surface potential decay rate.
