Izon Science designs and manufactures precision instrumentation for nano- and micro-scale particle analysis. The instruments are now in use in a wide range of research institutes and universities around the world.
The basis of Izon’s instrumentation is a unique, dynamically tunable nanopore technology platform which utilises a technology called Tunable Resistive Pulse Sensing (TRPS). This technology platform is world-leading in offering an affordable, robust and highly flexible technology for real-time detection, quantitation and characterisation of individual particles at the nanoscale, across a wide range of applications.
TRPS offers a unique alternative to the existing laser-based technologies available on the market. It offers applications not previously available to researchers and at a fraction of the cost of the incumbent technologies.
Tunable Resistive Pulse Sensing (TRPS) technology enables measurements of nanoparticles suspended in electrolytes, as opposed to the estimates provided by light scattering techniques. A scientific measurement must be quantifiable and reproducible, delivering as a minimum:
1. The concentration of particles in the fluid as a number of particles per unit volume of fluid, across a specified detectable particle size range.
2. An accurate size distribution of these particles ideally plotted as a histogram of concentration vs particle diameter (or volume).
TRPS is the only technology that delivers these fundamental requirements, and in addition can measure the surface charge of individual nanoparticles.
Materials Science Applications of J&M equipment include geology and petrography (vitrinite reflectance, maceral analysis), color measurements on foils, LEDs and TFT displays, end point detection with plasma etching on wafers, fluorescences, rapid kinetics of nanoparticles and much more.

The LUM GmbH is one of the leading producers for analytical devices for dispersion analysis and particle characterization.
On the basis of longtime experiences in the field of fluid mechanics, rheology and colloid chemistry the company, founded by Prof. Dr. D. Lerche in 1994, has developed the innovative STEP-Technology®, which is the technical platform for different product lines.
Or measuring equipment is used for the fast, reliable and comprehensive characterization of any demixing phenomena in dispersions and the testing of bonding and adhesive strength of composite materials.
Due to an effective network with national and international partners, latest research results are transformed into the present products and commercialized as new applications and devices. The portfolio is continuously extended.
LUM GmbH offers a wide range of contract research and analysis in the competence fields, too. The innovative strength of LUM and its staff is documented in many applied and granted patents as well as in reviewed international scientific publications.
In December 2004, the LUM Corporation was founded in Boston, MA, USA, as LUM’s own subsidiary. LUM Corporation is responsible for the sales in the NAFTA-region and is located in Boulder, Colorado, USA. The global LUM-sales network covering 37 countries at present is still expanding.

Proudly supplying Industry and Universities with Laser Micromachining systems and Imaging systems for almost 30 years. Our dedicated and experienced team is available to answer your questions.
In 1977 the company was one of the first spin-outs from Oxford University in the UK. Since then it has always been a free standing, privately owned business working with advanced laser technologies and their applications.
The company started by producing advanced gas lasers and was soon producing its own Copper Vapour Lasers (CVLs). Through the 1980s they were used extensively for uranium enrichment for nuclear power. In 1990 the break-up of the Soviet Union lead to large quantities of enriched uranium becoming available and the demand for uranium enrichment dried up.
However, the CVL with its nano second pulse length, high power and excellent beam quality was the ideal laser for the new technology of short pulse laser micromachining and the company evolved naturally into this field. This CVL heritage meant that we one of the first companies in the field and since 1990 we have run 1000s of different jobs in our Application Lab. This gives us a unique width and depth of experience. We also use this experience in the design of our micromachining systems, allowing us to supply the ideal system and its associated process for a particular application.
In the last 20 years solid state laser technology has evolved steadily and now these are the lasers of choice for short pulse micromachining. Today we would offer a CVL only in the most exceptional circumstances.
The CVL, with its ability to produce a stream of high power nanosecond pulses also makes an ideal light source for imaging small, high speed particles. In parallel with its move into micromachining the company formed its Imaging Division, dedicated to the measurement and analysis of small fast moving particles, sprays, short events and high brightness processes such as welding.
