Materials Science, Inc. was established in 1989 and incorporated in 1992. The company specializes in magnetron sputter deposition. We manufacture and distribute products from multiple locations throughout the United States.
Materials Science, Inc. endeavors to understand each customer’s needs and respond appropriately. Our team of creative scientists, engineers, software developers, technicians, coating experts and support staff each possesses decades of experience, both in designing and building critical technology components and similarly with systems used in high volume industrial production. To shorten product development cycles, we design and model most of our products by CAD before prototype units are built. We often use 3D solids modeling and FEA software to perform magnetic, thermal, fluid and stress analysis. These tools allow us to rapidly design, prototype, test and help our customer put into production new magnetron sputtering sources designed for specific needs.
Materials Science, Inc. has several prototyping test systems. Products are characterized and optimized as appropriate. During prototype testing, we also monitor and control vacuum levels, argon and reactive gas flow, current, voltage and power levels, incoming/outgoing water temperature, flow and pressure and other information germane to a device and/or application.

Nor-Cal Products, Inc. was incorporated in 1962 and began fabricating stainless steel flanges, fittings, and custom components exclusively for the then emerging vacuum industry. Nor-Cal’s knowledge of welding, machining, forming and cleaning stainless steel allowed us to quickly become the premier supplier to equipment manufacturers and national laboratories. Nor-Cal coauthored the specification for vacuum fittings at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory that became the standard for vacuum component manufacturers. Parr Instrument Company is a privately held corporation located at 211-53rd Street, Moline, Illinois, engaged in the design, manufacture and sale of laboratory instruments and apparatus for testing fuels and for conducting chemical reactions and tests under heat and pressure.
Parr reactors and pressure vessels include both standard designs and custom-built equipment in laboratory and pilot plant sizes. Uses for this equipment are found in a broad range of chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and biotech research, development and control laboratories.
Parr calorimeters are used for testing a variety of solid and liquid fuels, foodstuffs and other combustible materials. Many unique designs and highly automated instrumentation have been added to its expanding lines of fuel testing instruments.
