Applied Physics Systems is a leading manufacturer of sensors and systems used in oil field, industrial and scientific applications. Our primary products are directional sensors, magnetometers and downhole drilling sensors and electronics. We design and engineer all of the products we supply.
In addition to our standard products, we conduct contract research for other organizations in our fields of expertise. We can design and build modified versions of our instruments as well as completely new instruments to solve your needs for magnetic field measurement, orientation sensors, steering tools, and clip-on milliammeters.
Applied Physics Systems was founded in 1976 by Bill Goodman and for over thirty five years has developed expertise in the design and manufacture of magnetometer sensors. In the last fifteen years, we have developed and expanded our products for drilling systems, electrical, mechanical, and computer software systems.
Applied Physics Systems is a leader in the manufacture of magnetic field measuring equipment, including Fluxgate Magnetometers, DC SQUID Magnetometers and Clip-on Milliammeters. We also manufacture a broad line of Angular Orientation measuring sensors including Steering Sensors for Directional Drilling applications and miniaturized sensors for general purpose use.
Applied Physics Systems is also a world leader in the design and production of Rock Magnetometer systems and accessories. These systems are produced in partnership with William S. Goree, Inc. and are sold under the 2G Enterprises name. 2G has its own web site with complete information on the instruments offered:

Hyper Tech is the world leader in manufacturing and R&D of magnesium diboride and niobium tin superconducting wire and integrated products. Hyper Tech’s innovative, patented wire drawing process enabled the company to be the first to manufacture viable long-length MgB2 wire. Hyper Tech has consistently integrated this technology into transforming products benefiting from superconducting materials. Superconductors carry high current with near zero ohmic loss. In coil form, such as in an electromagnet, a charged and closed loop can carry current, and hence magnetic field, for long periods of time (of the order of months to years depending on the detail design). This makes a superconductor ideal for high field magnets. It is commonly used in MRI and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) systems throughout the world. Hyper Tech is well equipped to produce two wire formed superconductors: MgB2 and Nb3Sn.

Science applications include particle bending magnets, high energy physics (HEP), and magnetic confinement fusion energy.

Since its inception in 1982, Quantum Design International (a privately held corporation) has developed and manufactured automated temperature and magnetic field testing platforms for materials characterization. These systems offer a variety of measurement capabilities and are in widespread use in the fields of physics, chemistry, biotechnology, materials science and nanotechnology.
Building on its expertise in the global marketing and distribution of its own scientific instruments, Quantum Design International (QDI) eventually broadened its scope to distribute quality scientific instruments from other manufacturers through an international network of wholly owned subsidiaries in every major technological center around the world.
With offices in the USA, Japan, China, India, Korea, Taiwan and Brazil, as well as thirteen European countries, QDI is strategically located in the world’s key centers for scientific research, providing local marketing, sales and technical support. More information on QDI’s worldwide distribution business may be found at
Quantum Design Inc. (QD) is the manufacturing arm of QDI. Located in San Diego, California, QD is the leading commercial source for automated materials characterization systems incorporating superconducting technology. QD instruments may be found in the world’s leading research institutions, and have become the reference standard for a variety of magnetic and physical property measurements. Quantum Design Inc. instruments are cited in, and provide the data for, more scientific publications than any other instrument in the fields of magnetics and materials characterization. This means that each year, literally hundreds of scientific publications, advancing the science of materials, use data generated from QD instruments.
Recently, Quantum Design Inc. expanded its product line beyond material characterization, to include instruments such as: a compact IR Crystal Furnace for the creation of new material; a Superconducting High-Gradient Magnetic Separator (SHGMS) for the processing and improvement of Kaolin clay; and a full line of Advanced Technology Liquefiers (ATL) and Helium Recovery Systems for the conservation and recycling of helium (a vital and increasingly scarce resource essential for cryogenic research and instrumentation).
In diverse areas such as materials characterization, high-sensitivity electrical measurements, and in-lab helium conservation, Quantum Design’s team of scientists and engineers provides a full spectrum of service and application support for customers both domestically and internationally.
